Blog 6: English Language Challenges

 Hi all!!


Today is your last blog post! Congratulations you made it hahaha! So today you are going to talk about your experience learning English at university and the use of blogs. Obviously this semester was more difficult because of the online classes, so talk about that also :)

Please, please be honest so we can know how to improve as teachers and as an English Program.

I have to say that I really enjoyed being your teacher this semester and I hope you enjoyed and learned a lot in my classes as much as I did.

During the course, I tried to promote the use of English 100% of the time (even though many of you still refuse <_<) and I also made sure to practice the four skills: listening, writing, reading, and speaking. I can honestly say that many of you have improved since your first video. I know that it was a big challenge to have online classes, but we I think we did a decent job!

Regard the content of the class, as you noticed, we always saw things that had important social or political content. This is because for me it is important to show students a different reality and hopefully so you can realize that changing reality is not only possible, but necessary.

We read various writers like Olive Senior, Christian Campbell, Jamaica Kincaid,  and Michelle Cliff. I hope you enjoyed reading them.

An important point I want to make is that English is not just USA or England. That's why in class we read texts from Jamaica or Barbados where English is spoken.


Remember that practice makes perfect and therefore it is very important that you continue practicing English outside of class. There are many ways to do this: listening to music in English, watching movies and series in English with subtitles in English, and reading in English.

    I loved the course. I really like the structure of the classes: watch a current, interesting video with content and then answer the questions. I suffered with blogs, but the video thing helped me a lot to practice things that were not taught in the other courses. I learned a lot :)

Blog 1: A country I would like to visit

  Hi everyone. Welcome to blogging in level 4! Today you are going to talk about a country you would like to visit :) For me it's a hard decision because the countries that I want to visit most are Cuba, Brazil, Uruguay, Panama, and Bolivia. So I will talk about Bolivia because  I have tried to go twice to Bolivia, but both plans failed: the first time I was going to go with an ex-boyfriend, but then we lost the flight and then the second time I was going to go with a group of friends, but no one had money and then there was a coup d'etat there :( I really want to go to Bolivia because one they sell fried chicken on the street and I basically live off of chicken (sorry vegetarians and vegans XD). But also, I have been told that it is really cheap to go to Bolivia and stay there, which means I can buy lots of books and eat a lot hehe. Blog 3: Favorite Series/Movie

 Hi everyone :) We are going to talk about favorite series or movie. Well, for me it's very difficult to decide because I have a lot of favorite series and movies. But I will talk about a series that I like whose second season came out July 31st! It's called The Umbrella Academy! I really like this series because I love superhero comics and this series is precisely about that haha. The series is about a billionaire named Sir Reginald Hargreeves who adopts 7 children and gives them numbers from 1-7 instead of numbers. However, their robot-mother ends up naming all of them <3 The billionaire is very abusive towards them and trains them to fight crime because they all have different powers. The series stars Ellen Page and also one of my favorite singers, Mary J. Blige, plays one of the villains. I like most of the characters, so I can't decide who is my favorite.
